At Weligama Buddhist Meditation, our emphasis is on Mindfulness. We offer both Guided and Unguided Meditation and employ methods designed to quiet the mind, increase concentration and focus, and open the heart.
These are called Samatha and Metta or Loving-friendliness Meditations, respectively, and when practiced, lead to a focused, calm mind - and greater peace, patience, joy, love, and compassion. An abiding sense of harmony with oneself and others can be expected, and this, in turn, can lead to a more focused, happy and meaningful life.
Moreover, Meditation reduces stress, and helps with disturbing thoughts and emotions, sleep, as well as one's overall physical and mental health.
In addition to Samatha and Loving-Friendliness, when the practitioner's mind quiets down, we can begin to explore Satipatthana - Vipassana, so- called "Insight Meditation" based on the Four Foundations of Mindfulness. This type of Practice is designed to arouse insight into the true nature of ourselves and the world - and according to the Buddha - is the direct path to Enlightenment, Nibbana.
Regardless of your aspirations, however, Meditation will have a positive impact on your life, and on those around you. It can provide a good measure of peace, joy, and relief from an over- thinking mind, and can enrichen one's experience of life. In short, meditation can be truly transformative.
